Hertsmere Community Spaces Shelters

The Hertsmere Community spaces shelters have been installed at The Moatfield in Bushey, Furzefield in Potters Bar and Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett.

Images of the construction of the shelters are in the Gallery.

Arts and environment organisation Green Heart Partnership is leading the project and has advised the shelters will be in place by April.

The unique structures have been designed so the whole community can use them and have been funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

Hertsmere Borough Council is working with a creative team to facilitate the design and build of three innovative, eye-catching, sculptural structures for the whole community to make use of and enjoy at three separate open spaces in the borough: Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett, Furzefield in Potters Bar, and the Moatfield in Bushey.

Superblue, a young, dynamic design team are working on this project with Green Heart Partnership and the team of officers from the Parks and Amenities, Communications, and Community Services teams at Hertsmere Borough Council, Aldenham Parish Council, the Police and other stakeholders.

Following a series of public events in each park in June and July and public meetings at each site in September, the designs for the shelters have been finialised and can be seen here.

The design of these community spaces follows community consultation carried out with young people in summer 2007, which led to a successful application to the Big Lottery Play Fund. The project is being managed by the Green Heart Partnership who will be working with Superblue and the team of officers from Hertsmere Borough Council, the police and other stakeholders to develop the structures.
