Shelters Coming Soon

Shelters coming soon

Special shelters will soon be installed at The Moatfield in Bushey, Furzefield in Potters Bar and Phillimore Recreation Ground in Radlett.

It had been hoped that the shelters would be ready by the end of January but problems with sourcing materials have meant that the timetable has slipped slightly.  Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, explained: "Since the designs were agreed the price of steel has increased and therefore we have agreed to slightly change some of the materials in order to keep the project in budget.  This has caused a minor delay."

Arts and environment organisation Green Heart Partnership is leading the project and has advised the shelters will be in place by April.

The unique structures have been designed so the whole community can use them and have been funded by the Big Lottery Fund.

The Moatfield, Bushey

Next week the Hertsmere Community Spaces team is running an activity day all around shelters and meeting spaces at two parks in Hertsmere - the Moatfield in Bushey and Furzefield in Potters Bar.

We would like to explore with you your ideas about your park and for you to input into the
small sheltered meeting space that is being created for your park.

What character does you park have? Where do you like to play? Where do you meet you friends? What do you want from your shelter? What would make your park a better place? What materials do you think the shelter should be made from?

Give us your ideas and inspiration.

Joining us at Moatfield will be Fix and Tricks, the Play Rangers and Friends of Moatfield.

Joining us at Furzefield will be the Fit Camp and the community police.

So come out and join us at the Moatfield and Furzefield for a day filled with activities all about your park.

Natural Play Research Trip

Recently part of the Hertsmere Community Spaces Team went on a research trip to natural play sites in Enfield.

Below are some of the pictures from the trip and show a variety of play spaces that have been created in Enfield's parks and play areas.  These have used natural materials and landscaping to enhance the play areas.

On site was discovered hidden away in the forest under the canopy of the trees  by a natural  stream. It is a good example of using the natural assets of the environment to create engaging play spaces.

A question of balance ...

And of course - we all couldn't  resist having a go.

Views from the day

Councillor Brenda Batten, Portfolio Holder for leisure, culture and health, said: "The vision is to create a small sheltered meeting space for the whole community to make use of and enjoy.  The event at Phillimore Recreation Ground was a real success with lots of local people getting involved. The temporary structures are a great way for residents to start thinking about what kind of shelter they want and we had some great feedback.  Young people especially seemed to enjoy writing and drawing on them."

Councillor Caroline Clapper said of the event at Radlett, "I was very pleased to see that consultation was taking place, to discover what the people in the area want, where they want it and what they need from it before any structure is erected. There seemed to be lots of input from many parishioners and I hope that the outcome of this consultation will be a shelter of beneficial community use to all residents."
